Red-naped X Red-breasted Sapsucker hybrid (Sphyrapicus ruber X Sphyrapicus nuchalis), Lynx Lake boat landing South Shore, Yavapai County

This hybrid Sapsucker was photographed by John Hardison on 03 November 2009.  It is the second hybrid sapsucker to be found at this location this year.

On first glance this bird looks like a Red-naped Sapsucker, but the red behind the eye on the reduced black on the breast (not easy to see in the photos) mark it as a hybrid.
