Mew Gull (Larus canus), Katherine Landing, Lake Mohave, Mohave County

This Mew Gull was photographed by David Vander Pluym on 25 January 2012.  This is presumably the same bird DeeDee DeLorenzo had here on 15 January 2012 and possibly the same bird Lauren Harter and David Vander Pluym had in Bullhead City on 25 November 2012.  This area has received little coverage this winter.

Mew Gull is a casual winter visitor to Arizona with fewer than 15 records, but there have been several reports this winter.

Small size and thin small dull pink bill with a black tip. Largely brown, white, and gray gull with brown smudged underparts, brown tail, heavily brown flecked uppertail coverts, and brown unpatterned underwing coverts. These points rule out Ring-billed Gull.
