Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula), Cheshire Neighborhood, Flagstaff, Coconino County

This Common Grackle was discovered in his yard by Chuck LaRue and photographed by Jason Wilder on 10 May 2012.

There are 19 accepted records for the state with 2 more pending. This species has been expanding in New Mexico and may be expected to occur more often in Arizona in the future.

Note the contrast of the dark, glossy purplish head and bronze colored body and the large bill.  Lower bird in first photo is a Brewer's Blackbird.
