Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus), Sun Lakes, Arizona, Maricopa County

This Least Grebe was discovered by Tom Lewis on the AZFO sponsored Greater Phoenix Area Waterbird Census on 19 January 2013 and photographed by Craig Fischer on 20 January 2013.

Usually a casual straggler to ponds near the Mexican border, it did breed and Peņa Blanca Lake in 2010 - 2011.  About 17 previous records.  This is the first Maricopa County record.

Least Grebe is a small, short-necked grebe with yellow eyes, a thin dark bill, and a gray face, neck, and back.
