Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), Twin Lakes, Cochise County

This Herring Gull was photographed by Scott Olmstead on 03 January 2014

Though regular in the LCRV this species is strickly casual to southeast Arizona in winter.

Adult. Large gull with medium-gray mantle and extensive dusky streaking on auriculars, nape, and sides of neck. Coloration darkest around the eye; front of face clean white. Head somewhat rounded. Bill medium sized, yellow, with red spot on mandible (no black) and a hint of greenish color toward the tip. Iris straw yellow. Legs pink.
