Lazuli x Indigo Bunting hybrid (Passerina amoena x P. cyanea), Old Sawmill Spring, Carr Reef, Huachuca Mountains, Cochise CountyThis Indigo x Lazuli Bunting hybrid was
found and photographed by Tom Deecken on 17 June 2014
(top photo) and again on 30 June 2014 (bottom photo) This hybrid combination is rare but regularly
reported in areas where both species are found together.
Indigo Bunting is an uncommon, but local breeder and
migrant in the state. Intermediate between the two species, with more extensive blue than a Lazuli and largely lacking the orange breast band, but shows white wing bars and extensive white underparts of a Lazuli.
