Plain-capped Starthroat (Heliomaster constantii), Private property in Ash Canyon, Cochise County

This Plain-capped Starthroat was found by the property owners and photographed by Charles Melton on 01 June 2014

Property owner discovered the bird on 6-1-14.

Rare summer visitor to SE Arizona. Becoming more regular, annual since 2007. Multiple reports in recent years in the southern Huachuca Mountains may represent the same bird wandering to different feeders as well as returning birds. However some may also be unique individuals.

Large dull colored hummingbird, long bill, bold white and dark facial markings, grayish gorget narrow at chin with dark red near bottom (red not visible in photos), whitish midline on grayish underparts, white tipped tail feathers, white on lower back and rump
