Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster), U.S.-Mexico border south of Yuma, Yuma County

This Brown Booby was photographed by a Border Patrol agent on 11 September 2014, staring at the border wall. The bird was picked up and taken to a rehabber.

There are seven accepted records for Arizona, as well as two pending records from 2013. This bird was found a few days after the remnants of Hurricane Norbert hit Arizona, so it was possibly a storm-blown bird.

This adult Brown Booby is distinctive: dark brown above and clean white below. Juvenile Masked Booby has a white collar and dark mask, and juvenile Blue-footed Booby has an all-dark bill and less contrasting white underparts.
