Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius), St. Johns, along Water St. south of the St. Johns wastewater treatment plant, Apache County

This Orchard Oriole was found by Lauren Harter and photographed by Eric Hough and David Vander Pluym on 01 September 2014

Casual migrant statewide, with few records from Apache County.

Females can be very similar to young Hooded Orioles, and size is one of the best distinguishing characters. In these photos, note the overall greenish coloration, short relatively straight bill and short tail, and narrow, sharply contrasting wing-bars.
