Rufous-capped Warbler (Basileuterus rufifrons), Peņa Blanca Lake, Santa Cruz County

This Rufous-capped Warbler was found and photographed by Chris McCreedy on 27 August 2015

This individual was below the dam at Peņa Blanca Lake, while there is a nearby family group upstream of the lake in Peņa Blanca Canyon this bird is likely not associated with them. Over twenty records, many involving multiple individuals, long staying birds, and breeding. One wintered at Pena Blanca Lake, in early 2015.

Unmistakeable, yellow throat and breast with rufous crown stripes and auriculars, and bold white supercilium. Song is a series of rapid, shrill and sweet notes.
