White-winged Scoter (Melanitta fusca), Parker Dam, La Paz County

These White-winged Scoters were found and photographed by Charlie Karr on 06 January 2016

Two males together.

Rare but regular fall migrant and winter visitant in the state, primarily along the Colorado River.

Large dark duck with sloping forehead, extensive feathering out onto the bill, a white "comma" below eyes, and white secondaries. The black plumage, immaculate "comma", and red-orange bill tip indicate adult males.
