Greater Pewee (Contopus pertinax), 'Ahakhav Tribal Preserve, La Paz County

This Greater Pewee was photographed by David Vander Pluym on 19 January 2016

Originally found 15 October 2013 by Bettina and Bob Arrigoni, this individual has wintered at this site each year since and was found this season on 11 October 2015 by Chris McCreedy.

Casual in the Lower Colorado River Valley with only a few prior records for La Paz County. Also casual in winter in the state, especially away from the border canyons of southeast Arizona.

Tall pointed crest, all orange lower mandible and dark upper mandible indicate this species. The bird was also heard giving its two note "pip pip" calls.
