White-rumped Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis), Santa Cruz Flats, Pinal County

These White-rumped Sandpipers were found by Sean Fitzgerald on 13 May and was photographed by Gary Rosenberg on 14 May 2016

This species is a casual late spring visitor to Arizona, with 12 accepted records in all, some involving multiple birds.

Large peep with shortish bill and long primary projection indicates either Baird's or White-rumped. Baird's is eliminated by the rufous fringe to scapulars, streaked flanks, strong eyeline, pale bill base and completely white rump.
