Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica), Arlington Valley Dairy Slop Pond, Maricopa County

This Hudsonian Godwit was found and photographed by Kurt Radamaker on 15 July 2016

Rare in AZ, all prior reports come from mid to late May. If accepted by the ABC this would represent the 8th record for the state and the only one from fall.

Typical godwit with long slightly upturned two toned bill (ruling out the superficially similar dowitchers one of which is to the right of the godwit). Gray head with bold supercilium, brick red underparts with fine barring and dark blackish above with white flecking. The gray head and neck help to rule out the unrecorded Bar-tailed and Black-tailed godwits. Bird is on the left side in the top image, otherwise it is center.
