pigment-deficient Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius), Arthur Pack Park, Pima County

This pigment-deficient Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius) was photographed by Andrew Core on 27 September 2016

Pigment deficient sandpipers are rarely reported.

Though extremely pigment-deficient, this Spotted Sandpiper still shows the distinctive shape of this species with a long tail and medium length straight bill. Andrew writes that it was "also teetering and bobbing like a typical Spotted Sandpiper, which aided in the identification".
