Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceus), Whitetail Canyon, Cochise County

This Red-eyed Vireo was found and photographed by Rick Taylor on 08 September 2017

Casual but nearly annual in Arizona.

Gray crown with dark border against white supercilium, dark eyeline, olive back and tail, yellow wash on undertail coverts and sides, very long bill for a vireo. In this photo this bird approachs the apperance of a Yellow-green Vireo, but note the dark bill, in Yellow-green the bill is typically pale and slightly bigger than a Red-eyed bill. Also a Yellow-green would show a duller face pattern and brighter more extensive yellow.
