Rose-throated Becard (Pachyramphus aglaiae), de Anza Trail at Tubac, Santa Cruz County
This Rose-throated Becard was
found and photographed by Bill Lisowsky on 14 January 2019
Rare and very local breeder in AZ.
Once a regular breeding species in a few
locations, Rose-throated Becard had almost disappeared
from Arizona in recent years. Recently multiple
individuals have been found along the Santa Cruz River,
including at least three pairs attending nests in 2018.
It is unclear whether these birds migrate and if so when
they return, but this is the first report since late
September of 2018.
Distinctive head and body shape and coloration. Large-headed, dark
cap, brownish wings and buffy breast. This may be a
female or young male.
