Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea), Green Valley WTP, Gila County

This Little Blue Heron was found by Ricardo Barrios and Ed Dunn on 27 May 2019 and photographed by Ricardo Barrios on the same date.

Casual, and apparently declining, late spring and summer visitor.

The only other all dark heron is the larger Reddish Egret. Adult Reddish Egret has a thicker, redder, shaggier neck and a pink and black bill. Immature Reddish Egret is more concolor and lacks the strongly bicolored, gray and black bill.
