Laughing Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla), Glendale Recharge Ponds, Maricopa County

This Laughing Gull was photographed by Pierre Deviche on 20 September 2020

More than 30 prior records for Arizona, primarily from late spring and summer but apparently just two previous records in Maricopa Co.

Observed flying over ponds and then continuing northwest. Midsize gull with longish dark, drooping bill, dark legs, grayish sides of breast. Wingtips without white; extensive black on primary undersides. Could be confused only with Franklin's Gull, which has white sides of breast, shorter bill, less extensive black on primary underwings.
