Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens), Chandler, Maricopa County

This Reddish Egret was discovered and photographed by Dale Clark on 27 December 2008 at the pond on the SE corner of Price and Queen Creek roads in Chandler.  It was also photographed by Brendon Grice the same day.

There are about 30 records of Reddish Egret for Arizona with numbers increasing in recent years.  This appears to be the second winter record for the state.

Uniform blue-gray heron with some reddish highlights, dark gray legs and dark, long heavy bill identify this as an immature Reddish Egret.
